Scholarships for Canadian Students
EduCanada: Opportunities for Canadians wishing to study abroad.
Government of Canada: Scholarships for Canadians outside Quebec
W.L. Mackenzie King Memorial Scholarships: Available to graduates of any Canadian university with outstanding academic performance.
Baxter & Alma Ricard Foundation: Designed for French-speaking Canadians living outside Quebec.
Mécénat Musica HEC Montréal Prizes for Artists: For Quebec residents.
Loans and Bursaries Program: For Canadian citizens or permanent residents living in Quebec and enrolled full-time.
Note that as the MMIAM is a private program, the maximum financial aid a Quebec student without any special conditions can get per month is CAD $975 as loans only (amount depends on each student’s situation and is subject to change), for the duration of the program. To apply online, students must click on the “My Student Financial Assistance File” link on the Gouvernement du Québec website and follow the instructions.
It’s very important that students mention that they will be studying at HEC Montréal during the three semesters of the MMIAM (fall, winter and summer) even if they will actually be at SMU Dallas (fall semester). HEC Montréal’s code to mention in the financial aid application is: 976001

Canadian Federation of University Women: Offers awards for women pursuing graduate studies, with special awards for mature students, Indigenous women, and studies related to Humanities.
Dalton Camp Award: Prize for the best essay on media and democracy in Canada.
MITACS: Offers substantial funding for internships, with some opportunities aligned with the MMIAM program.

Canadian Francophonie Scholarship Program: For students from one of 37 countries in the French-speaking world.

FAFSA® (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): Offers financial aid opportunities for Americans wishing to study.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF): For Americans employed by government or nonprofit organizations, this program forgives the remaining balance on Direct Loans under specific conditions.
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board: Provides resources for Texas residents, including state grant programs and loans.
Communities Foundation of Texas: Lists scholarships for Texas students, including options for graduate students such as the AAF Dallas Foundation Scholarship Fund and Horticulture Printers Scholarship.
Dallas Jewish Community Foundation: Offers scholarships based on financial need, academic merit, extracurricular involvement, and community service. Open to students of all faiths.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund: Merit-based scholarships for Americans of Hispanic heritage. Awards range from $500 to $5,000 based on financial need.
Lantos Foundation Activist Artist Scholarship: Scholarships between $3,500 and $5,000 awarded in two categories: an essay on the influence of an activist artist, or submission of original work (art, music, dance, or writing) focused on human rights issues.
Grand Rapids Community Foundation Scholarships: A general application enters candidates into a selection process for over 80 scholarships. Three are for graduate students: the Dorothy J. Thurston Graduate Scholarship, the Guy D. & Marty Edith Halladay Graduate Scholarship, and the Ronald T. Smith Family Scholarship.
SLAS – Ayn Rand Essay Contests: Open to graduate students. Write an essay on the book “Atlas Shrugged” for prizes ranging from $1,000 to $25,000.
Digital Responsibility Scholarships: Scholarships of $1,000 for short personal statements on themes like digital privacy and technology addiction awareness.
Fastweb Scholarship Directory: A database of scholarships for graduate students. Includes programs for veterans, military families, and more.
Scholarships.com Directory: Divided into categories (e.g., age, ethnicity, residence state), this directory provides an extensive list of opportunities.
University of Illinois Fellowship Finder: Includes programs for graduate students, such as short-term travel fellowships.
ROMBA LGBT+ Fellowship: For members or allies of the LGBT+ community enrolled in a business program.
The Mas Family Scholarship: For descendants of Cuban exiles or individuals born in Cuba. Graduate students may be eligible.
GI Bill Benefits: Provides financial aid for veterans and their families to cover education or training costs.
National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) Scholarship Program: Scholarships for individuals with Italian American ancestry.
Indiana University Office of Scholarships: Offers a list of external resources, some of which are for graduate students.
NBMBAA® Scholarships: For members of the National Black MBA Association who demonstrate exceptional leadership. Awards range from $1,000 to $10,000
Association on American Indian Affairs Graduate Scholarship: One-year scholarships for students enrolled in federally or non-federally recognized tribes in the U.S. or Alaska. Awards range from $2,000 to $3,000.
The Beinecke Scholarship Program: For juniors planning to pursue research- or creative-focused graduate studies in arts, humanities, or social sciences. Award amounts range from $5,000 to $30,000.
The Leopold Schepp Foundation: Scholarships for full-time graduate students under 40 pursuing their first master’s degree. Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, financial need, and strong character. A personal interview in NYC is required.
Award Amount: Up to $10,000.
Scholarships for Non-Americans (by American Organizations)
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board: Resources for Texas residents, including state grant programs and loans. The Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) is available for those who are ineligible for FAFSA.
Asian Cultural Council: Offers grants primarily for travel expenses to practicing artists, humanities scholars, or arts professionals from eligible regions including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Mainland China, and many more.
American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowships: Provides support for women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the U.S. who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Recipients are expected to return to their home country for a professional career.
Deadline: November 15 every year.
American-Scandinavian Foundation: Offers funding for candidates from Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway, and Sweden to undertake graduate-level study or research in the U.S. for up to one year.
Fulbright Foreign Student Program: Enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad to study and conduct research in the U.S. Fully funded for selected applicants.
The John R. Mott Scholarship Foundation: Scholarships for students native to Calabria, Italy, to support their education at institutions of higher learning.
Leo S. Rowe Fund: Interest-free educational loans of up to $15,000 for citizens of Latin America and Caribbean OAS Member States to finance studies or research in the U.S.
P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship: Scholarships for international women students to pursue graduate study in the U.S. or Canada.
Margaret McNamara Education Grants (MMEG) USA-Canada Program: Grants for women over 25 years old who are nationals of countries listed on the MMEG Country Eligibility List and enrolled at accredited universities in the U.S. or Canada. Check if the “one full academic semester” includes Summer.
Scholarships from Other Countries Allowing Their Nationals to Study in Canada or the USA
Gestionándote: A web platform designed to strengthen the work of social organizations, projects, and entrepreneurs in Latin America and the Caribbean. Provides information on funding opportunities and resources to facilitate decision-making, management, and financing improvements.
Aga Khan Foundation: Accepts applications from nationals of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, and Mozambique under 30 years old. Applicants must have excellent academic records, demonstrate genuine financial need, and pursue studies relevant to AKDN’s focus areas.
Fulbright Irish Student Awards: Grants for Irish citizens or EU citizens residing in the Republic of Ireland for over five years. The awards support postgraduate research in the USA for a period of 4 to 12 months.
Colfuturo: Offers loans that can convert into scholarships under specific conditions for Colombian citizens pursuing studies abroad.
GlobalScholarships.com: Provides $1,000 scholarships for international students of any nationality or program.
Organization of American States: Provides up to $10,000 scholarships for graduates students coming from a member state (among which Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Haiti, Mexico, Peru, etc.) to help them study in another member state. See especially the OAS Academic Scholarship Program (Graduate).
François Colbert Scholarship for Arts Management
Amount: CA $5,000
Criteria:
- Enrolled in the MMIAM program
- Latin America’s citizens living in Latin America or developing countries’ citizens living in their country of origin
- In Essay #4, while expressing your financial needs, mention that you are applying also for this scholarship.
The scholarship will be awarded no later than April 15.
