Streaming sales totaled US $17.7 billion in 2024, accounting for a market share of 84 percent, with 100 million subscribers according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). These figures include subscriptions as well as other uses such as personalized digital radio services in stores and other businesses. Sales of physical music formats (vinyl, CDs, cassettes) have continuously decreased since the advent of streaming in 2005. However, while it was believed at the time that vinyl would disappear, there has been a resurgence in vinyl sales since 2007. Album sales accounted for 0.04 percent of the market in 2007, and since then, total sales have continued to grow, reaching 8.4 percent of the music market in 2024. As for CD sales, they decreased until 2020 before starting to grow again and now account for 3.1 percent of the market. The cassette, on the other hand, has almost disappeared from the landscape.
